10 killed and 15 injured in fire at explosives making factory in Tiruchirappalli, TN

On Thursday, in a fearful tragedy, 10 persons killed and 15 others injured in a massive fire at an explosive-making unit at Murugapatti, about 40 km from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.

The local police said that the reason of the fire was not known till now. They also added that 3 fire fighters vehicles reached the spot to control the fire. 10 ambulances were also sent to take the injured persons to hospital as early as possible.

 

Initially, the fire was noticed in one of the manufacturing unit of the factory, but soon it spread to other areas of the factory. The blast waves were felt even two km away from the site. The people of the surrounding areas got panic. The police forcefully blocked the traffic on Athur road.

The police said that there were 15 mini-units in the factory which was manufacturing explosives for widening and deepening wells in the rocky belts. The licensed unit was working for more than 25 years.

As per the reports that the building of the factory collapsed due to the massive explosion.

The police said that the black smoke was stinking and very toxic. There were more 7 sub-units making the chemicals.

The factory officials claimed that at the time of massive fire took place, around 30 people were working in the unit, but the locals said that 50 persons were present in the factory.
