13 workers killed and 3 injured in a massive fire in unlicensed garment factory : On Saturday early morning, a massive fire broke out in a unlicensed garment unit at Sahibabad, Uttar Pradesh. This fire engulfed the life of 13 and injured the 3 people .
Sr Superintendent of Police of Ghaziabad – Deepak Kumar Singh said that early in the morning around at 5:30 am, a phone call was received by the district fire control room regarding the massive fire breaking out in a garment manufacturing unit situated near Jaipal Chowk in Shahid Nagar, Sahibabad.
SSP – Deepak said that many fire tenders rushed to the spot but due to narrow and congested lanes and the parking of vehicles in the area the fire dousing operations were hindered as the fire tenders could not reach near the incident site.
He further said that the garment factory was unlicensed and was being run in residential area.
16 worker of the factory were sleeping on first floor of the factory at the time of fire.
10 out of the 16 workers were suffocated to death while three others were charred to death.
Remaining three workers jumped from the first floor to save themselves. They were immediately rushed to nearby GTB Hospital in North East Delhi.
The police said that an FIR has been registered against the factory owners Rizwan and Nazakat under section 304A IPC (Causing death due to negligence) and both of them have been arrested.
Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has announced ex-gratia compensation of two lakh rupees to 13 families of deceased workers. CM Akhilesh has directed the Ghaziabad District Hospital to provide adequate help to all those affected by the fire.
District Magistrate – Nidhi Kesrwani said that a committee has been constituted to scrutinise the illegal dyeing and other factories being run in the area.
