Angelique Kerber beats Karolina Pliskova to win US Open title 2016

The second-seeded Angelique Kerber beat the Karolina Pliskova to claim the title of the 136th edition of US Open. This is the second title for Kerber in the same year, earlier she won the title in January 2016.

This was the ultimate clash between the 10th seeded and 2nd seeded players. Angelique beat the Pliskova by 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The match was taken place on Saturday.

In the after match conference, Kerber told media wing that ” Amazing to win a second Grand Slam in one year. It’s the best year of my career.”

She further added ” It is incredible to win this tournament. My journey began five years ago when I reached semifinal and now I won this match. And, now I am here with the trophy.”

Kerber not only won the title but she will now rise up to the first ranking on Monday. The 28-year-old Kerber showed his happiness and told media wing that ” It was my dream to be the number one seeded player and now, it has completed. I am so happy.”

Meanwhile, Karolina Pliskova who never won the Grand Slam title and again left behind just one step away from claiming her maiden title. But, Pliskova still made some unique record in this tournament as she only fourth player to beat the both William sister in the single edition of Grand Slam.
