Author Dennis Howard Marks Died of Cancer at the age of 70 : Dennis Howard Marks was a Welsh drug smuggler turned author, who achieved notoriety as an international cannabis smuggler through high-profile court cases.


Dennis Howard Marks was born on 13 August 1945 in Kenfig Hill, near Bridgend, Wales. He announced last year he had been diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer.

His drug smuggling began in the 1970s after he graduated from Oxford University with a degree in physics. He also collaborated on songs with the Super Furry Animals and made appearances at the Glastonbury festival.

The writer, performer and former drug smuggler Howard Marks has died, aged 70, after suffering from cancer. Marks, who said he had no regrets about his life when announcing his illness last year, was described as a “truly lovely, entertaining and inspiring man” as news of his death broke on Sunday.

He was sentenced to 25 years at one of America’s toughest prisons – Terre Haute, Indiana – and was released on parole in 1995 after serving seven years.

In an Interview he said : “It’s impossible to regret any part of my life when I feel happy and I am happy now, so I don’t have any regrets and have not had any for a very long time.”
