Kashmir Valley: Baramulla 2 soldiers, 1 policeman killed as militants attack army convoy

Baramulla: Two army personnel and a policeman were killed in a militants attack. The militants attacked a security convoy on the Srinagar – Baramulla national highway. After many year, This is the first attack on a convoy in Baramulla. Five soldiers were also injured in the militant attack.


An army spokesman told The Indian Express that militants attacked the security convoy between 2:30 AM and 3 AM in the morning on the Srinagar – Baramulla national highway.

He said that 2 army men and 1 police constable were killed in the militants attack. There are 5 security personnel injured as well. The militants managed to escape after the attack. Locals said that the firing continued for more than 20 minutes.

After protests erupted in the valley of kashmir, the army has been moving its convoys during the night to avoid any engagement with protestors in the Kashmir valley. But, this is the first time since the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani that an army convoy was attacked in any part of the Valley.

On Tuesday, GOC, 19 Division had said that the five infiltrators killed in the Uri sector had come with an aim to target a civil or high-value target.

On Tuesday, Militants had hurled a grenade on a police station at Kakapora tehsil, Pulwama district near Srinagar that left five policemen injured.

Since the 15th August, this is the third militant attack on security forces in the Kashmir Valley.
