Happy St. Joseph Day 2020 Quotes Sayings Wishes Images Funny Pictures

March 19 always falls during Lent, and traditionally it is a day of moderation. This explains the custom of St. Joseph tables being covered with meatless dishes. If the feast day falls on a Sunday other than Palm Sunday, it is observed on the next available day, usually Monday, March 20, unless another ceremony falls on that day. Since 2008, if St Joseph’s Day falls during Holy Week, it is moved to the closest possible day before 19 March, usually the Saturday before Holy Week.

The first appearance of Joseph is in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Each contains a succession of Jesus showing ancestry from King David, but through different sons; Matthew follows the major royal line from Solomon while Luke traces another line back to Nathan, another son of David and Bathsheba. Consequently, all the names between David and Joseph are different.

When the Jesus was born, an angel again appeared to St. Joseph and told him to take the Holy Family away in order to escape the wrath of Herod.

St. Joseph’s Day is a big Feast for Italians because in the Middle Ages, God, through St. Joseph’s prayers, saved the Sicilians from a very serious drought. So in his honor, the custom is for all to wear red, in the same way, that green is worn on St. Patrick’s Day.

When the swallows come back to Capistrano

That’s the day you promised to come back to me.

When you whispered farewell in Capistrano

‘Twas the day the swallows flew out to the sea.

All the mission bells will ring

The chapel choir will sing

The happiness you’ll bring

Will live in my memory.

When the swallows come back to Capistrano

That’s the day I pray that you’ll come back to me.

While the altar candles burn

My heart is burning too

If you should not return

I’ll still be waiting for you.

When the swallows come back to Capistrano

That’s the day I pray that you’ll come back to me,

That’s the day I pray that you’ll come back to me.

  1.  “He was chosen by the eternal Father as the trustworthy guardian and protector of his greatest treasures, namely, his divine Son and Mary, Joseph’s wife. He carried out this vocation with complete fidelity until at last God called him, saying: ‘Good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.’ ” — St. Bernardine of Siena

  1. “Those who give themselves to prayer should in a special manner have always a devotion to St. Joseph; for I know not how any man can think of the Queen of the angels, during the time that she suffered so much with the Infant Jesus, without giving thanks to St. Joseph for the services he rendered them then.” — St. Teresa of Avila

  1. “The Lord has arrayed Joseph, like with a sun, in all which the saints possess together in regard to light and splendor.” — St. Gregory of Nazianzus

  1. “We should, indeed, honor St. Joseph, since the Son of God Himself was graciously pleased to honor him by calling him father. The Holy Scriptures speak of him as the father of Jesus. ‘His father and mother were marveling at the things spoken — concerning Him’ (Luke 2:33). Mary also used this name: ‘in sorrow thy father and I have been seeking thee’ (Luke 2:48). If, then, the King of Kings was pleased to raise Joseph to so high a dignity, it is right and obligatory on our part to endeavor to honor him as much as we can.” — St. Alphonsus Liguori

  1. “St. Joseph was chosen among all men, to be the protector and guardian of the Virgin Mother of God; the defender and foster-father of the Infant-God, and the only co-operator upon earth, the one confidant of the secret of God in the work of the redemption of mankind.” — St. Bernard of Clairvaux
