CBI may go soft on L K Advani : Babri Masjid demolition

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Tuesday a petition, which claims that with the BJP in power, CBI may not make adequate efforts to get conspiracy charges restored against party leader L K Advani and others in the Babri Masjid demolition case. The plea has been filed by Haji Mehboob, a petitioner in the title suit representing the Muslim community in Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu issued notices to the BJP leader and the CBI on a separate plea filed by Haji Mahboob Ahmad, one of the petitioners in the Babri mosque case. Ahmad, in his plea, has alleged that CBI may dilute its stand in the wake of the change in the government at the Centre.(source by Hindustan Times)

The BJP leaders face charges connected to two FIRs or police complaints after the mosque razing. The first alleges a conspiracy by “lakhs of unknown kar sevaks (volunteers).” The second FIR specifically accuses BJP leaders of making inflammatory speeches that incited the volunteers, who then went on to tear down the mosque they believed was built on the birthplace of lord Ram.
