Live Update : Assam’s Kokrajhar Market Terror Attack 14 People Dead & 15 Injured

KOKRAJHAR, ASSAM: 14 civilians have been killed by the terrorists. The terrorists opened fire at a weekly market at Balajan Tinali in the heart of Assam’s Kokrajhar. Security forces took the immediate action and killed one of the terrorists. 15 civilians have been reported injured in the incident.


An AK-47 rifle has been recovered from the terrorist who was killed after an intense gun battle. The gun battle lasted about 20 minutes. The government send the Additional forces to the spot. The other terrorists are being pursued by security forces. The terrorists also threw a grenade that ruined three shops in the market.

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay has said the attack was carried out by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland(Songbijit) or NDFB(S).

According to ANI news agency that Assam Chief Minister Sarabananda Sonowal has spoken with PM Modi after the incident.

This sudden incident of firing on people at a public place in broad daylight is first of its kind in the militancy-ravaged state. The shoot-out occurred when the state was in high alert in view of the coming Independence Day.


Army suspect that there were at least three militants and one of them have been killed by us. Army is searching the area for the other two militants, Defence PRO Lt Col S Newton said.

According the sources of TOI that the terrorists are suspected to belong to a Bodo outfit. Recently,  It had issued a threat to the National Investigation Agency. The sources said that an attack in Kokrajhar had been anticipated.
A trader at the market and a survivor of this attack, Santosh Narzary said that I saw one gunman dressed in black raincoat-like gown and another two were sitting in an autorickshaw. He wasn’t firing indiscriminately. He was targeting people and taking one shot at a time.

According to the reports of Times Now that one other person has been shot by the security forces, but there is no clarity yet on whether this person was one of the terrorists.
