Two Indian winners who has been chosen for Magsaysay Award 2015, bureaucrat Sanjiv Chaturvedi, who blew the whistle on alleged scam at the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and Anshu Gupta, who heads the NGO Goonj.

Magsaysay Award 2015 Indian Winners

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) on Wednesday announced that this year five individuals from India, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines will receive Asia’s premier prize.

According to the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, Mr Chaturvedi is being recognized for “his exemplary integrity, courage and tenacity in uncompromisingly exposing and painstakingly investigating corruption in public office, and his resolute crafting of program and system improvements to ensure that government honorably serves the people of India.

Anshu Gupta, founder of the non-profit Goonj, is has also been selected for the award.

Established in 1957, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is Asia’s highest honour and is widely regarded as the region’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
