I was all of five then. Those who worked in Pookkalam Varavayi later played a crucial role in my career. Roy P. Thomas, the art director, gave me my second movie,Pavam I.A. Ivachan , which was his directorial debut, and Lalu uncle [Lal Jose], an assistant director then, made me a heroine at 14 in hisChandranudikkunna Dikhil.

Till then, my family, especially my mother, used to tell everyone there was no question of my continuing in films and becoming a heroine. She wanted me to do my graduation, get married… But that wasn’t meant to be”.
