Muzaffarnagar: Rs 1 crore illegal arms racket in communally sensitive area :- Muzaffarnagar: On Thursday, an illegal arms racket worth Rs. 1 Crore busted in communally sensitive Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The move comes after 453 pistols worth Rs 1 crore were seized from Khurgan and Dabhedi villages in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh.

SP Ajaypal Sharma said that a case was registered against seven persons namely Motiram, Sarvar, Furkan, Khurshid, Aleem, Gayyur and Sarvar in the illegal arms racket.

The police said that Motiram was arrested, while six others are absconding. The stringent National Security Act will also be slapped on the accused.

On Friday, in another incident, the state police busted an arms manufacturing unit and seized nine pistols at Kakra village.

SHO S C Rathore said that one Sardar was arrested in the case but his accomplice managed to escape.

In a district as communally sensitive as Muzaffarnagar, which has witnessed, in the 2013 riots over 62 deaths, 92 injuries and the displacement of approx 100,000, possession and circulation of arms illegally is all the more dangerous.

In the year 2016, Muzaffarnagar also experienced various other communal tensions over issues like cow slaughter an inter-religion relationship of a young boy and girl, and rape of a 5 years old girl.
