Nine killed in landslide in Manipur’s Tamenglong district; officials retrieve seven bodies

On Tuesday, in a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall, around 9 people were killed which took place in 3 different places, in the Tamenglong district in Manipur. News18 Assam and North East reported that the rescue officials have been able to get back the bodies of around 7 victims as of now.

N Biren Singh, the Chief Ministerof the state said in a tweet that the rescue operations are now underway. Jitendra Singh, who is the Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Regional, also tweeted that he was “saddened” to hear the news about the all sudden massacre because of the landslides.

After the monsoon, season started several incidents of landslides triggered by rains that have been reported. On Sunday, incessant rains had caused landslides along the stretch of National Highway (NH)-2, which also affect the traffic alongside the Kohima-Dimapur road.

Quoting officials, PTI reported that the stretch of NH-29 beneath Avile petrol pump was completely cut-off whilst another landslide happened in the in Hospital Colony. NH-2 is also the lifeline for public carriers to neighbouring Manipur because the trucks pass at highway of the road.
