Odisha: 16 Killed & More Than 30 Injured As Bus Falls Off Bridge In Angul district :- 16 people were killed and more than 30 others critically injured in a bus accident. The bus carrying them fell off a bridge in Angul district, Odisha today.
DGP – K B Singh said that the mishap took place near Deulijhari when the bus were traveling from Boudh to Athamallik fell from a bridge at Puruna Manitri.
Singh said that 16 persons including 4 women were killed and more than 30 others people got serious injuries in this bus accident.
The collector of Angul district – Anil Kumar Samal rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation. Samal said that the injured were immediate admitted to a hospital at Athamallik. The condition of many injured people was stated to be critical.
Officials said that chief minister directed that the injured be provided medical treatment free of cost.
They said that several students of Athamallik college were also travelling in the bus.
They also said that it was not immediately clear that how the bus fell off the bridge, but at the initial state the driver appeared to have lost control over the bus.
Officials said that 14 persons died on the spot and the rest succumbed to injuries during the treatment at the hospital. They added that the death toll is likely to increase because the condition of some of the injured persons is stated to be critical.
The DGP said necessary steps were being taken to ensure survival of the injured persons.
Some injured persons were being immediately shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, while some others persons were taken to the district headquarters hospital at Angul.
After getting information about the mishap, the Odisha police and fire brigade police rushed to the spot within the time and carried out rescue operation.
Police said that the bus was badly damaged in the accident because the bus fell from a height of about 40 feet.
