New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has slammed Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about the RSS – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh while hearing a plea by the Congress vice-president in a defamation case filed against him.
The RSS was responsible for the death of Mahatma Gandhi, Rahul alleged.
the Supreme Court bench said that whether you spoke for the public good or not, the case must be decided on its merits. You can’t make wholesale condemnation of an organisation.
Supreme Court said, observing that ‘history is the biggest enemy of privacy, that the purpose of law was not to turn citizens into litigious.
On 9th July. the supreme court had heard the plea of Gandhi seeking a stay on the Bombay High Court order, refusing to abolish the defamation case against him over his remark on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Earlier in April, the supreme court had delayed the plea till second week of May. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had urged the supreme court to reject the defamation case filed against him by the RSS in March.
Earlier, Rahul’s counsel had argued that there are several evidences and judgements which would prove that the defamation case filed against him by RSS was pinpoint.
Rahul Gandhi had also turned down the offer of Supreme Court to express regret for his comment that the RSS responsible for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and get the defamation case filed against him buried.
Earlier in the assembly election of Assam, Congress vice president Gandhi had accused the BJP and the RSS of trying to create disruption in plural but harmonious social fabric in Assam.
