State govt suspends 15 police officials in Bihar Hooch tragedy

Nitish kuma’s led Bihar government has suspended 25 police officials including Inspector of Gopalganj Town Police Station following the hooch tragedy. 18 people have died due to consumption of spurious liquor in the district on Wednesday.

The illegal liquor unit was running at Khajurwani village under the jurisdiction of Town Police Station in Gopalganj district of Bihar where after drinking country made illicit spurious liquor, over dozens of people complained of stomach ache, headache and nausea.

DGP P.K. Thakur said that FIRs have been registered against 14 persons in two different cases. He said that 6 persons have been arrested so far. A huge man-hunt is on to grab the main culprits.

The district administration has formed a medical board to probe the matter. The incident has caused embarrassment to Nitish Kumar-led grand secular alliance. They had imposed ban on consumption, possession and sale of liquor in Bihar from 15th April 2016.

The state government had also reinforced it excise intelligence bureau and also introduced new laws for stricter enforcement of prohibition of liquor in Bihar.

A senior leader of BJP, Nand Kishore Yadav said that This government has completely failed in curbing the consumption of liquor, despite imposing tough laws. The hooch tragedy proves that law is just a tool to harass innocents, while others are simply ignoring the law. The chief minister must take moral responsibility.
