Recent earthquake occurred near Chittagong, Bangladesh. This morning an earthquake just a few hours ago around Indo-Bangladesh Border region has hit Chittagong with a magnitude of 4.7 which has an epicenter of 27 k.m. The seven northeastern states – Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur – are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
The whole tremor was occurred at 06:27 a.m. on 27/june/2016.
The region also encountered an earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale in 1897. Over 1,600 people died in that tremor.
The earthquake occurred in Bangladesh, Division of Chittagong (population 14,746,629). The nearest places are Chaudhurichara (6km), Taichakma (11km), Bagachari (12km), Lakshmicharipara (12km), Burighat (11km), and 8 more.
The quake’s epicenter was 21 kilometers southeast from Khagrhachharhi’s Manikchharhi, 22 kilometers north-northeast from Chittagong’s Raozan and 197 kilometers east-southeast from Dhaka. It was 10 kilometers deep.
No damage or mishaps have been reported so far from the earthquake in the initial hours.
