In those days, the trend was to release film music months in advance and so, ‘Aashiqui’ music too was released four months before the release of the film. Since my father Gulshan Kumar had produced the film, we had access to the music much before it was in the market. I remember whenever I went with papa in his car; I would take my favorite cassette and play it. So I started playing ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ that was not our music, but of a competitor. Papa gave me the ‘Aashiqui’ cassette and told me, `Listen to this. This is from our film.’ I started hearing it and till today, that album remains on my playlist. I remember him telling me that his most favorite song ever was `Dheere Dheere Se’. Papa died in 1997”.
