Another case of sexual assault is in the news where a four year old girl was raped allegedly by a private school’s helper-cum-conductor in Punjab’s Sangrur district on Saturday. This is the incident of Dhuri town in Punjab’s Sangrur district, which now have led to trigger various protests by residents in contradiction of the school management as well as the local administration.
The occurrence took place on Saturday when the 27 year old suspect lured the girl when her mother had come to the school in order to be present at a parent-teacher meeting, police said Monday.
As per to the police, The girl was playing in the park, seeing the girl alone the helper cum conductor took advantage of it and joined her playing in the park. After few minutes he allegedly lured the girl and taken to a room and raped her. The victim’s mother was attending the meeting when the crime was happing. After the parent-teacher meet, the girl’s mother took her home without being aware of the incident.
Later on Saturday evening, the girl then complained of pain in abdomen and repeated it on Sunday, after seeing her condition her parents took her to a hospital where doctors confirmed the child was sexually assaulted.
As the news started spreading, protests break out in Dhuri and the residents gathered outside the local police station, demanding that the accused should be arrested as soon as possible. They also demanded to hand over to them for punishment. Sangrur SSP, Sandeep Kumar Garg said that the accused was arrested on Sunday.
When he was asked about the protests, he replied, “They had a few demands. They wanted the accused to be arrested and we told them that he has been arrested. Their second demand was that action should be taken against the school management and they were told the administration will look into this. As far as their demand that accused be handed over to them was concerned, we told them that he has been arrested and is being dealt as per the law”.
In the meantime, the Opposition parties in Punjab have attacked Amarinder Singh claiming of poor law and order situation in the state.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is the president of Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), said that law and order has broken down in the state. “Shocked over reported rape of a four year old girl in Sangrur district. There is no such thing as law and order in Punjab with murders, rapes and daylight snatching becoming a daily occurrence. CM must take responsibility or is he too busy quelling party revolt?” Badal tweeted.
