A farmer on Wednesday committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s presence at the Aam Aadmi Party’s rally in New Delhi against the land bill.
The man, identified as Gajendra Singh, climbed the tree as top AAP leaders were present at the Jantar Mantar, a stone’s throw from Parliament, and hanged himself with a ‘gamcha’ (towel). As some people climbed up to save him, the branch gave away and he fell.
He was rushed to nearby RML hospital in a police jeep. Doctors there said that he was “brought dead”.
Kejriwal said, “We kept asking the police to bring him down. Police may not be in our control but at least there should be a semblance of humanity among them. I am rushing to the hospital with Manish Sisodia”.

A purported suicide note was recovered from the spot in which he mentioned that he is a farmer and his crops have been destroyed. He has also wrote his family’s contact number.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on said communication about the AAP notification issued to police to keep the media away from the rally held at Jantar Mantar was confidential.
“Communication with governmental agencies and police are confidential. So, I will not like to discuss that. Media, if identified, can go to any function,” Bassi told ANI.
Reports say AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has asked the Delhi Police to keep the media away from the protest site.

“He has come back from a vacation and his entertainment tour. The leader has been talking about the welfare of the farmers,” Vishwas said.
