Republic Day 2021: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to be honoured with Param Vishisht Sewa Medal

Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat is going to receive the Param Vishisht Sewa Medal (PVSM) at 26 January 2019 on the occasion of Republic Day for his great assistances and contribution in order to advance the nation’s military service area.

General Bipin Rawat is the 27th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. He took over the office on 31st December 2016 afterward the retirement of General Dalbir Singh.

Earlier in his initial days in Army, Bipin Rawat was appointed on 16th December 1978 into the 5th battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles, the same unit as his father. He has loads of experience in great altitude warfare and spent ten years leading counter insurgency tasks.

He has held the commands of Southern Army, III Corps, 19 Infantry Division (Uri), MONUSCO Brigade , 5 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (Sopore) and 5/11 Gorkha Rifles.

He has been earlier awarded with many honours and those are:

  • Param Vishisht Seva Medal
  • Uttam Yudh Seva Medal
  • Ati Vishisht Seva Medal
  • Yudh Seva Medal
  • Sena Medal
  • Vishisht Seva Medal

The honorary military award will be deliberated on the Army chief for his insistent role in undertaking counter-terror tasks in contradiction of Pakistan comprising surgical strikes too. He has also played a firm role in upholding and maintaining composure with China.

Apart from Bipin Rawat, Commander Lt Gen Anil Bhatt of 15 Corps is also going to receive the Ati Vishisht Sewa Medal this year on Republic Day for leading the Indian Army into one of the most successful tasks in contradiction of terrorists.

Under his command various terrorists were terminated in the valley of Kashmir. The number of terrorists neutralised under his command is counted as more than 300, which is great in number. Thus, he has played a very important role in eliminating and minimizing the terror attackin the vallies of Jammu & Kashmir.

In addition of the top officers, a number of Indian Navy and Air Force personnel are also going to receive gallantry awards for saving the lives of civilian citizens for the duration of floods in Kerala which was held in the year 2018.

Lance Naik Nazir Wani, an Army Personnel who put down his life while killing six terrorists in an operation which was held in the Valley, has previously received the uppermost gallantry award that is the Ashok Chakra. He was a highly-decorated soldier and not only this earlier also he had already received the Sena Medal not once but twice.

A number of Navy and Indian Air Force personnel will also be receiving gallantry awards for saving the lives of people for the period of floods in Kerala, 2018.
