ATS arrests 2 suspected Jaish operatives from Deoband in a midnight raid

On Friday, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested two suspected terrorists which are supposed to be connected to terror module of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The two of the suspected terrorists were arrested in a raid which was held in the midnight at Deoband which is located in Saharanpur district of the state.

As per the OP Singh, Director General of Police said that after getting the specific information about their activities from their sources, the raid was conducted.

OP Singh said, “Yesterday after inputs two suspected terrorists were caught from Saharanpur by our ATS wing. They are linked to JeM and both are from Kashmir. Shahnawaz is from Kulgam and Aqib is from Pulwama. Two weapons and live cartridges seized”.

The DGP further said by adding that the two arrested men are basically from Jammu and Kashmir and they are between the age group of 20 to 25 years old.

As a part of an investigation process, the raid was conducted which was based on the intelligence inputs to the ATS. The DGP OP Singh of Uttar Pradesh state confirmed that one Jaish-e-Mohammed in force was picked up in the course of the raid. OP Singh said the ATS operated only after confirming the intelligence inputs received by the police.

The DGP also said, “Of the two Shahnawaz is said to be a grenade expert. We will seek transit remand and investigate when they came here from Kashmir and who is funding them and what was their target. We are in touch with Jammu and Kashmir police.”

Keshav Prasad Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister of UP said in his statement that it is a great message to all the enemies of the nation.

Maurya Said, “UP ATS has arrested two suspected JeM terrorists from Saharanpur and recovered arms and incriminating material from them. This is a message to the enemies of the nation that terrorists will not be able to hide anymore”.

OP Singh also informed that the ATS has recovered various video clips as well as the messages from their mobile Phones, which have been sent for further forensic examination.

The UP police ha released the press statement which states that Shahnawaz hails from Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir and is an active member of terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Police said that he was currently situated in Deoban in order to recruit youths for his organisation.

The police also said that another terrorist which is arrested in the police raid was Aqib who is from Pulwama in south Kashmir. He was also involved in finding out the new recruits for Jaish-e-Mohammed.

According to the Police, the ATS received information from an “alert student”, who informed them about a number of youths residing at Deobad deprived of taking admission in any course and was trying to recruit the new ones for Jaish-e-Mohammed. After receiving the input, the team of ATS raided their rooms and recovered pistols and live cartridges and much more other articles.

In the meantime investigation is going on and there is yet to find out that they are linked to last week’s Pulwama terror attack or not, the attack which killed at least 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.

DGP Singh also refused to comment on any link of arrested terrorists related to Pulwama attack. He said, “This is under investigation. We will give you information when it is over.”
