Breaking News : Water ATMs coming soon in Hyderabad : Those days are not very far away when water will be sold through Water ATMs. Yes, now this not a dream but a reality. Hyderabad city will soon get water ATMs. Chilled portable water will be sold through kiosks, modelled on the line of cash-dispensing automated teller machine (ATMs) of banks.


A proposal to this effect was mooted by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewage Board (HMWS &SB) managing director B Janardhan Reddy in a review meeting in the city on Monday.

He directed water officials to work out on the proposal of installing water ATMs, wherein pedestrians could get a litre of chilled water for Re 1.

In another iniative, the water board has decided to draft women self-help groups (SHGs) for collecting water dues from defaulters and create awareness on conservation of water and monitor delivery of free tankers. The MD also focused on the need for conservation of water. The water board was bringing water from the long distances: Nagarjunasagar (110km) and Yellampally (186km).

Due to the depleting ground water in the city, the officials have decided to put 1,000 rain water harvesting structure in 100 day action plan.

The MD also directed to change water connection of lodges, hotels, hostels and other commercial establishment from domestic to commercial. “If officials fail to do so, then action will be initiated against the erring employees,” the MD warned.
