Co-director of Peepli live Mahmood Farooqui gets 7 years jail for rape

On Thursday, The Saket court sentenced Peepli live film co-director Mahmood Farooqui to seven years jail after finding him guilty of raping an American woman.

Sanjiv Jain who is the Additional Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Mahmood Farooqui. Co-director Mahmood Farooqui was convicted of raping a woman 30 years old on from Columbia University. She was here for research on her doctoral thesis.

The woman moved to Delhi in June 2014. She was looking for job for her work in Gorakhpur. She came in contact with co-director Mahmood Farooqui through a common friend.

The rape incident occurred on 28th March 2015 when Farooqui invited her for dinner at his house in Delhi.

According to the police charge sheet, the victim woman reached his house at 9 p.m. and she found Farooqui was very intoxicated.

After 20 minutes, while talking with her, he suddenly kissed her and forced himself on her. The woman was scared after the incident.

During the trial, the American researcher alleged that Mahmood Farooqui had raped her. But the co-director Mahmood Farooqui denied the allegations and claimed that he was falsely implicated.
