As per the intelligence sources, a special cell of the Delhi Police received an alert last evening about the presence of the terrorists in the capital. Security has been beefed up across the national capital following the intelligence input received by the police. The alert led to searches across Delhi, especially in the more crowded neighbourhoods of Delhi.

The Delhi Police has also intensified patrolling and picketing in several areas across the national capital as the city gears up for Durga Puja and Ramlila to ensure the safety and security of people, especially women.

Security agencies have been getting inputs about possible attacks in retaliation against the central government’s August 5 decision to revoke special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and split it into two union territories.

The country has been in a state of high alert after intel warnings of a terror plan to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The Home ministry put out an alert to all states following a threat naming 30 major cities.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is also alert to a threat to frontline bases following multi-agency inputs. An “orange alert”, which is a notch lower than the highest state of emergency, is in place at important installations and security has been tightened on IAF bases in Srinagar, Awantipora, Jammu, Pathankot, and Hindon.

According to inputs received by the Defence Ministry and intelligence agencies, the Jaish-e-Mohammad has been plotting fidayeen or suicide attacks on airbases. The inputs include a threat letter dated September 10, received by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. The letter in Hindi is reportedly from one Shamsher Wani of Jaish and claims revenge for the government’s Article 370 decision.

The Army had also said it had received inputs on a possible terror attack in south India, adding that some abandoned boats were found recovered from Sir Creek.

Security had been tightened across Tamil Nadu in August following intelligence inputs that members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba had infiltrated into the state.

Lt Gen SK Saini, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Southern Command said, “We have inputs that there may be a terrorist attack in the southern part of India. Some abandoned boats have been recovered from Sir Creek. We’re taking precautions to ensure that designs of inimical elements and terrorists are stalled.”
