Earthquake of 5.5 magnitude hits India-Myanmar border today 23rd August 2016

On Tuesday, a earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter Scale hit India – Myanmar border region at 7:11 am in the morning, the Indian Meteorological Department said.

According to the report of ANI news agency that a 3.1 magnitude on Richter scale earthquake also hit Karbi Anglong district in Assam at 5:30 am at the Tuesday morning. ANI news agency also reported that Earth tremors were also felt in Guwahati in Assam.

There are currently no reports of casualties and damage in the local areas.

Earlier in April 2016, An earthquake of 6.9 magnitude on Richter scale at a depth of 135 kilometers, 396 kilometers north of Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw had hit Myanmar. Residents in the main city of Yangon, Myanmar panicked after the earth tremor hit, but authorities said that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Tremors of that quake were felt in parts of Delhi, Patna, Guhawati, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata.
