20th IIFA Awards 2019

The International Indian Film Academy Awards 2019 happened on 18 September 2019 and for the first time ever in the Awards’ history, it was held in India, in Mumbai. The event was brilliantly hosted by Ayushmann Khurrana.

Bollywood’s A-listers which comprises of Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer, Shahid Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif as well as Alia made their way up the green carpet in honour of the 20th anniversary of the event, before the gala at the NSCI, SVP Stadium in Mumbai.

IIFA Awards 2019 Performance in Event, Mumbai

On this big event, Meghna Gulzar’s espionage thriller Raazi, which has featured the powerhouse duo of Alia Bhatt as well as Vicky Kaushal, has claimed the Best Picture award at the 20th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards.

The 26-year-old Raazi’s actress, Alia Bhatt, who was also critically acclaimed for depicting the role of a spy in the espionage drama, took home the Best Actress IIFA Award.

Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, was also full of action as he was handed the Best Actor IIFA award for his villainous role as Alauddin Khilji which he played in the period piece Padmaavat.

Overall, Raazi won a total of four honors while on the other hand Padmaavat and AndhaDhun earned two each respectively. Sriram Raghavan also grasped a win for Best Director for AndhaDhun.

Another star from the movie Raazi i.e., Vicky Kaushal, also won the Best Supporting Actor award for Sanju – the Sanjay Dutt biopic. In the meantime, Aditi Rao Hydari also won in the Best Supporting Actress category for her commendable role in Padmaavat.

The fresh faces in the Bollywood industry was also awarded on Bollywood’s biggest day of the year. Actress Sara Ali Khan won the Best Debut Actress IIFA Award for Kedarnath while her contemporary Ishaan Khatter also took home the Best Debut Actor trophy for his role in Dhadak.

The evening also saw the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema award being presented upon veteran actor Jagdeep. Director Ramesh Sippy as well as Ranveer presented him the honour.
