Vijaya Nirmala Veteran Actress-Director Passes Away at 73 in Hyderabad: Popular Veteran South Indian film actor and director G Vijaya Nirmala, aged 73, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad on June 27. She was suffering from age-related illness and was admitted to the Continental Hospital in Gachibowli where she breathed her last on Thursday morning.
She is survived by husband Krishna and son Vijaya Naresh. Mahesh Babu and Manjula Ghattamaneni are her step-children. Vijaya had a son, Naresh, from her marriage to Krishna Murthy. She later married actor Krishna, who was the father of five children from his earlier marriage, including superstar Mahesh Babu.
According to the sources, her mortal remains will be brought to her residence in Nanakramguda at around 11 AM. The final rites will be performed tomorrow.
Ms. Nirmala, born on February 20, 1944, in Tamil Nadu, made her debut at the age of seven as a child artiste in a Tamil movie Machcha Rekhai (1950).
She entered the Telugu film industry through the film Rangula Ratnam and acted in over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
Ms. Nirmala went on to play the lead roles in films like Alluri Seetharama Raju, Meena, Poola Rangadu, Asadhyudu, Bangaru Gajulu, Mosagallaku Mosagadu, Thatha Manuvadu, Engaveettu Penn, Panama Paasama, En Annan, Gnanaoli, Uyira Maanama, Bhargavi Nilayam and Udhyogastha among more.
Though she began her career as an actor, later she took many roles in her career as producer and director. She had directed 44 Telugu films.
In 2002, she entered the Guinness Book of Records as the female director of the most number of films. In 2008, she received the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for her contribution to Telugu cinema.
Apart from films, she also ventured into television. She made her debut on the small screen with Balaji Telefilms’ Pelli Kanuka. Soon after, she launched her own banner Vijaya Krishna Movies and produced 15 films.
The entire film fraternity is shocked by the sudden demise of Vijaya Nirmala. Many celebrities took to social media to express their grief over the death of Nirmala.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao condoled her demise and conveyed his condolences to the members of the bereaved family while remembering her contribution to cinema.
