Geeta Jayanti Divas 2018 History, Celebrations, lyrics, popular Slokas, Messages, Images & Pictures: Geeta Jayanti Divas is celebrated on 18th December every year as a birth date of Bhagavad Gita which is the holy manuscript of Hindus. On this year it is going to be celebrated on Tuesday, 18th December 2018. According to the Hindu calendar, the day is observed on the Shukla Ekadashi, the 11th day of waxing moon of Margashirsha month.

Bhagavad Gita History

It is believed the “Bhagavad Gita” was discovered by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the battleground of Kurukshetra: which is presently located in Haryana, India. The manuscript is transcribed in third person, recited by Sanjaya to King Dhritarashtra as it becomes known amongst Sri Krishna and Arjuna.

Sanjaya, the administrator of the King Dhritarashtra who was blind, had been sanctified by his Guru, Ved Vyasa, with the supremacy to distantly outlook the proceedings taking place on the battleground as they emerged.

Geeta Jayanti Divas is celebrated worldwide by the Lord Krishna’s devotees basically the followers of Sanatana Dharma which is mainly found in Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia.

The devotees worship Bhagavad Gita as their Heavenly or Godly Mother for the reason that she gives grounding in how to reinvent our mislaid connection with God.

vasudeva sutam devam

English Translation: salute Lord Krishna, the son of Vasudeva, the one who gives great enchantment to Devaki, the destroyer of Kamsa and Chaanuura and the educator of the world.


  • Chapter 2, Verse 62

dhyaayato vishayaanh pumsah sangasteshhupajaayate

sangaath samjaayate kaamah kaamaath krodho abhijaayate

English Translation: When a person dwells desirously on sense objects, an leaning towards them is generated.

This predisposition develops into desire and longing gives rise to anger.

bandhuraatmaatmanastasya yenaatmaivaatmanaa jitah

anaatmanastu shatrutve vartetaatmaiva shatruvath

English Translation: For a person who has subjugated his lower self by the heavenly self, his own self actions as his best friend. But for that person who has not subjugated his lower self, his own self deeds as his worst enemy.


  • Chapter 2, Verse 47

karmanyevaadhikaaraste maa phaleshu kadaachana

maa karmaphalaheturbhuu maatesangotsvakarmani

English Translation: A person has the right towards act alone and not towards the fruit of action. Let not the fruit of act be the purpose for acting. Also, Let there not be any attachment to inaction.
