Haryana Election voting 2019 LIVE Updates: 51% voter turnout recorded till 4:30 pm

The assembly elections voting started today early morning at 7am on Monday (October 21) with low voter turnout recorded in Maharashtra and Haryana. There have been reports of EVM glitches in Gurugram as well as in Maharashtra. The Congress approached the Election Commission (EC) with more than 180 complaints for the same.

Other than that polling is also being conducted for the by-election to 51 Assembly seats along with two Lok Sabha constituencies that are spread across 18 states. Polling started in 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana at 7 am and will carry on till 6 pm in the evening.

There are as many as 1,169 candidates which comprises of 105 women of various political outfits that are participating in the election.

4:20 pm: Total of 50.59 per cent voting turnout recorded in Haryana till 4 pm, as per to the Election Commission data.

51% voter turnout recorded till 4:30 pm

3: 50 pm: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has described the candidate of BJP from Haryana’s Assandh as the “most honest man” in the ruling party after a video went viral in which he is allegedly heard saying no matter whatever button is pressed on the EVM, the vote would go to the BJP.

“The most honest man in the BJP,” the former Congress president tweeted along with the video he shared on his twitter handle.

3: 40 pm: 49.42 voting per cent recorded in Haryana till 3:30 pm.

3: 10 pm: As Maharashtra and Haryana electorates cast their votes, Karnataka Congress on the other hand advised people to not let “divisive politics destroy our democratic foundation”.

They tweeted, “We call upon the people of Maharastra & Haryana to not let divisive politics destroy our democratic foundation

3: 00 pm: Union Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan stated that BJP is going to form government in both the states, Haryana as well s in Maharashtra. He said, “We are confident that people will continue to support Prime Minister Modi, his philosophy and his policies.”

2:30 pm: 37.12% voter turnout recorded in Haryana till 2 pm: Election Commission

11: 00 am: Voting is on hold after an EVM machine at booth number 286 in Badshahpur stops working.

10: 20 am: CM Manohar Lal Khattar rides Shatabdi by Shatabdi Express from Chandigarh to his hometown Karnal in Haryana in order to cast his vote

“First vote then refreshment. I am going to cast my vote,” Khattar tweeted.

he then further added, “I humbly request all citizens of the state that you too must exercise the franchise by visiting your polling station. Your one vote is crucial to form a strong government,”

9: 20 am: Deepender Hooda stated that it is unfortunate that Modi along with Amit Shah came to rallies and spoke for hours but never spoke on development under Khattar government. he further added, that they spoke on national issues but not state issues.

9: 00 am: Senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala casts his vote in Kaithal.

8: 20 am: TikTok star Sonali Phogat, who is taking part in the election on a BJP ticket from Adampur constituency, casts her vote. She is up against former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal’s son as well as against senior Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi.

8: 00 am: PM Narendra Modi tweets to encourages the voters to exercise franchise. He wrote, “Elections are taking place for Haryana and Maharashtra assemblies. There are also by-polls taking place in various parts of India. I urge voters in these states and seats to turnout in record numbers and enrich the festival of democracy. I hope youngsters vote in large numbers.”
