The South Africa cricket team is all set to tour in India in the month of September and October 2019 in order to play three Tests as well as three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series on the other hand is going to be form part of the inaugural 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship. The South African team are also planned to return to India in March 2020 in order to play three One Day International (ODI) matches.

Cricket South Africa in August 2019 confirmed that Faf du Plessis is going to lead the Test side for the tour, along with Quinton de Kock named captain of the T20I team.
Originally, Pune was scheduled to host the third Test, but it is now going to host the second Test, while Ranchi is now going to host the third Test match.
