International Day of Light Significance

The International Day of Light is a worldwide initiative that provides a platform for the continuous gratitude of light and the important part it plays in science, culture, and art, education as well as sustainable development and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy.

The wide-ranging theme of light is going to permit many different sectors of society international to take part in activities that exhibit how science, technology, art as well as culture can help to attain the goals of UNESCO – education, equality, and peace.

The International Day of Light is an annual celebration that provides a platform for the continued appreciation of the vital role that light science and technologies play in all the lives of citizens from around the world.

International Day of Light 2021 Observance

In the second yearly event which will mark the anniversary of the first successful setup of the laser by the physicist as well as engineer Theodore Maiman in the year 1960, International Day of Light 2021 is going to feature activities to teach young people from the basic level to college.

The headquarters of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization is situated in Paris, defines light as an inspirational subject in a lot of disciplines used to promote science education for children.

As per the officials who stated on the UNESCO website, “Teaching programs using light science and technology build worldwide educational capacity through activities targeting children, addressing issues of gender balance, and focusing especially on countries with emerging economies.”

In addition to that, the science and applications of light are natural catalysts in inspiring local invention, even in settings with inadequate resources comprising developing countries around the world.

As per to the UNESCO, “Moreover, education in light and light-based technologies acts as a lever to encourage careers in science and engineering, as well as stimulating entrepreneurship.”

Various countries such as China, Greece, India, Latvia, Ireland, and Poland either have sponsored or are going to sponsor the workshops as well as lectures geared headed for encouraging youth to follow their careers in photonics.

In China, the university students who are also the members of the Jilin University OSA student chapter initiated their course for youths with elementary optical theory and are also continuing with protest march and experiments to allow the children to know the philosophies of optics, and will finish by having the youngsters to conduct their individual experiments.

In India on International Day of Light, students of all ages, comprising college students, are going to visit optics and photonics labs. Whereas, High school students in Indonesia are going to take part in experiments which are based on the topics such as “Optical Light Spectrum and How Colors Are Made,” “Interference Phenomenon in Waves, Light, and Matter Interaction,” as well as “Application of Light in Daily Lives.”

Elementary school children in Spain are going to take part in workshops that discourse refraction, reflection, lasers, fluorescence, and lighting as well as it will also conduct experiments in those areas.
