Former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes and wife Melanie have been blessed with a baby girl. The couple has named her India Jeanne Rhodes.
The baby was born in Surya Mother and Child Care Hospital in Santacruz on Thursday. Jonty took to Twitter to share the good news.
According to reports, the couple had been preparing for the water birth – not common in India – for a long time.
”The baby girl, born by natural water birth, at 3.29 pm weighs 3.71 kg. The couple are extremely overwhelmed and thrilled about the new addition to the family,” said Dr Bhupendra Avasthi of Surya Mother and Child Care hospital at Santa Cruz (W). The couple had been preparing for the water birth for the last three months, added the doctor.
” Birthing in water is considered to be one of the most beneficial options for a woman and her baby. It creates a naturally calm and peaceful atmosphere and allows the freedom of movement and pain release, because it creates a natural habitat for the baby and is less painful for the mother” said Dr Avasthi.
But the hospitals in Mumbai have been offering water birth for quite a long time now and it seems that Melanie, away from her own country, did not face much problem in labor.
However, Rhodes is not the only one whose daughter has an Indian connection. Former New Zealand cricketer Dion Nash had also named his daughter ‘India Lily’.
