Lionel Messi’s injury Confirmed, Striker To Miss Upcoming Matches

On Wednesday, Spanish club FC Barcelona on confirmed that Argentine striker Lionel Messi elongated his left adductor for the duration of the team’s match which was held against Villarreal.

After the tests were conducted on the 32-year-old this Wednesday evening, Barcelona issued a statement on the injury, and stated, “First team player Leo Messi has an elongation at the adductor of the left thigh. It is low and its progression will determine his availability.”

Following this news, Messi is going to be sidelined for the forthcoming matches but the side has not stated a timeline for his recovery.

However, the club has made no comment regarding how long he it is going to be side-lined, reports in Spain claimed that the Argentine forward is certainly going to miss Saturday’s trip to Getafe as well as may possibly remain a doubt for the Champions League tie with Inter on next Wednesday.

Against Villarreal, the 32-year-old Messi played the first half and this was his first start after a preseason injury.

Messi’s first match for this season was played when he came off the bench in the second half in the match that was held against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League previous week.

On Sunday, he also came off the bench in the second half of the 2-0 loss at Granada in the La Liga.

The 32-year-old Argentine has also helped Barcelona to win La Liga and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Both Messi and Van Dijk are now in the running for the coveted Ballon d’Or which is going to be declared on December 2.
