Arun Jaitley Health Condition Updates

Earlier, Arun Jaitley has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. He was kept under observation at the Cardio-Neuro-Centre of the hospital, however, his condition kept on deteriorating day by day.

Announcing Arun Jaitley’s demise, AIIMS issued a statement that says, “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and former Finance Minister Government of India at 12:07 pm on August 24, 2019. Shri Arun Jaitley was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi on 09/08/2019 and was treated by a multidisciplinary team of senior Doctors.” Arun Jaitley Passes Away

Arun Jaitley passes away at 66

Reportedly, Arun Jaitley was unwell from the past two years. In 2018, Arun Jaitley had undergone a kidney transplant surgery, following which he was put under isolation. Also, four years earlier in 2014, Arun Jaitley underwent a bariatric surgery to address the excess weight he had gained due to diabetes.

A lawyer by profession, Arun Jaitley was among the leaders who were jailed by the Indira Gandhi government during the Emergency. He was a student leader at the time. After being released from jail, Arun Jaitley joined active politics as a member of the Jan Sangh and rose through the ranks of the organisation, which later became the BJP.

A lawyer by profession, Arun Jaitley also served on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet. Between 2009 and 2014, when the BJP sat in the Opposition benches, Arun Jaitley served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Following the death of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, condolence messages from leaders from political parties across the spectrum and people from different walks of life have started to pour in.

Union Home Minister and BJP president Amit Shah has also cut short his visit to Hyderabad and is returning to New Delhi.  Meanwhile, Amit Shah in his condolence message for Arun Jaitley said his death comes as a personal loss for him. He said, “In the death of Arun Jaitley, I have not only lost a senior leader of the BJP but a member of my family.”

Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor said he is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Arun Jaitley. He said Arun Jaitley was his friend and senior from Delhi University.

He tweeted, “We first met when he was at DUSU and I was president of St Stephen’s College Union. Despite political differences, we enjoyed healthy mutual respect and debated his Budget often in the Lok Sabha. A great loss for India.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his condolence message said in a tweet, “Untimely demise of former FM and senior leader Sh Arun Jaitley ji is a huge loss to the nation. A legal luminary and an experienced political leader known for his governance skills will be missed by the country. Thoughts and prayers with his family in this moment of grief. RIP.”

President Ram Nath Kovind said he is extremely saddened by the death of Arun Jaitley. President Kovind said Arun Jaitley was a brilliant lawyer and seasoned parliamentarian. President Kovind said in a tweet, “Extremely saddened by the passing of Shri Arun Jaitley after battling a long illness with fortitude and dignity. A brilliant lawyer, a seasoned parliamentarian, and a distinguished Minister, he contributed immensely to nation-building.”

Arun Jaitley Death Reason

Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, hailed Arun Jaitley’s legal excellence and his helpful nature.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Arun Jaitley’s wife and son and expressed his condolences, said sources. Both of them have insisted that PM Modi does not cancel his current foreign tour for the demise of Jaitley.

PM Modi tweeted, “Arun Jaitley Ji was a political giant, towering intellectual and legal luminary. He was an articulate leader who made a lasting contribution to India. His passing away is very saddening. Spoke to his wife Sangeeta Ji as well as son Rohan, and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.”


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Jaitleyji will always be remembered for pulling the economy out of the gloom and putting it back on the right track. The BJP will miss Arunji’s presence. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.”


On the passing away of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, says, ” I am deeply shocked to learn about the demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, a long-time dear friend and one of my closest associates. His death is an irreparable loss to the nation and a personal loss to me. I have no words to express my grief.
