No water supply in Pune on Thursday; PMC undertaking repair work

Just after having a flood-like situation for about two weeks, the city is now going to face water cut on the coming Thursday. Te decision is being taken by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in order to undertake urgent maintenance as well as repair work at all its pumping along with water purification units.

Sanjay More, PRO of PMC, said in a statement, “There is a need for urgent repair and maintenance work at Parvati waterworks, raw water pumping station, Vadgaon waterworks, Cantonment waterworks, SNDT-Warje waterworks, New Holkar pumping station. Thus, the water supply for the entire city would remain closed on Thursday,”

Along with this he also stated that the supply is also going to be restored late on Friday so the residents are expected to get water with less pressure in the beginning.

The PMC had announced water cuts in June after which there was postponement in arrival of monsoon. On the other hand the complete supply was restored only after good rainfall in the month of August.

In the meantime, the water resource department had to also release large amount of water from all the total of four dams such as Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar after they were filled to their volume. At the present, the dams are 100 per cent filled with total quantity of 29.15 TMC.

The Pune Municipal Corporation is the civic body that is used to governs Pune Central, which is the second largest city of Maharashtra. This organisational body is in charge of the civic needs as well as infrastructure of the metropolis, which is spread over an area of 331.26 sq. km. along with having around 3.4 million residents.

The key responsibility of PMC is to look after the civic as well as infrastructural needs of the citizens living in Pune. The administration comprises of two major branches such as the executive branch which is headed by the Municipal Commissioner as well as the deliberative branch which is being headed by the Mayor.
