New Delhi: Today Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Chief of Army, Navy and Air Force pay homage to Kargil war martyrs by laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate in Delhi.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Navy Vice Chief P Murugesan and Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag also paid tributes to the martyrs on the 17th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war.
Over 500 Indian soldiers were martyred in the Kargil War. Several events are planed at army centers across India especially in Kargil War Memorial in Drass Sector in Leh-Ladakh to celebrate the Kargil victory and pay tribute to the martyrs.
Army Chief Mr Dalbir Suhag had visited the Kargil War Memorial in Drass yesterday. He said that the armed forces will not let another Kargil.
The Kargil war began in May 1999 and it lasted for more than two months before Pakistani soldiers. They had occupied overlooking the Srinagar-Leh highway. But Indian soldiers made a protection wall on the highway in one night only to save himself from the firing of Pakistan.
In the Kargil War, the Indian Army lost 527 officers, soldiers and jawans.
