Monsoon Session of Parliament LIVE updates: Lok Sabha to take up National Medical Commission Bill, 2017

The Lok Sabha has listed The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 today for consideration and passage. The bill aims to regulate medical education and practice and set up the National Medical Commission (NMC). The NMC panel would have 25 members and will determine fees for up to 40 per cent of the seats in private medical colleges and deemed universities.

    Lok Sabha discusses Consumer Protection Bill

    BJD member Bhartruhari Mahtab in Lok Sabha asks about the status of Consumer Protection Bill. Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan says the bill has passed the standing committee’s scrutiny and will be introduced soon. In a lighter vein, he adds if the Opposition assures the Bill will be passed, we will bring it in a day or two.

    A member alleges that manufacturers are not passing the benefits to the consumers. Paswan says the companies have been asked to mention the old and new price so that consumers know that prices have slashed.

    RJD, SP issue adjournment motion in Lok Sabha

    Protesting over the Deoria shelter homes incident in Uttar Pradesh and Muzaffarpur shelter home incident in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party have issued an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha.

    MPs of RJD and SP were seen protesting outside Parliament House on Tuesday.

    Mayawati asks Rajya Sabha to pass SC/ST amendment bill

    Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday urged the Rajya Sabha to pass the SC/T Amendment Bill. “Although the Bill was implemented late our party welcomes it,” says Mayawati.

    “We expect that the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2018, that has been passed in Lok Sabha, will also be passed in Rajya Sabha. Although the Bill was implemented late our party welcomes it.”

    Mayawati further added that BSP gave credit for implementing this Bill to ST/SC people of the country “which includes BSP supporters too, who successfully conducted Bharat Bandh on 2 April and pressurised the Centre and the BJP govt to retain the earlier provisions of the Bill.”

On Day 1 of the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted Telugu Desam Party’s no-confidence motion against the Modi government.

events in Rajya Sabha were largely smooth after Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu agreed to take up the TDP members’ demand which is of a debate on the grant of special package for Andhra Pradesh, sometime next week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Earlier in the day, remained hopeful of a peaceful Session which asserted that his government was ready for debate on any issue raised by political parties. “Any party wants to raise any issue, this government is ready for a discussion,” he told reporters just before the session was started.

The prime minister expressed the hope that Parliament’s functioning is turned to be an inspiration for state assemblies in the whole nation.
