Rani Vidya Devi, the wife of late Jaipur Imperial King Jai Singh passed away at the age of 78 on Friday, 20th August 2021 evening. The demise news of monarch Devi came as a shocking piece of news for everyone especially for the communal of Rajasthan as well as for the Himachal Pradesh. The whole community is in immense sorrow and grief after learning about the passing of their queen mother. It is as if a part of them has left the world. Devi was one of the most respected queens of Jaipur and also regarded as a legendary motherly figure for the state.
She was one of the most idolised queens, especially among the ladies. As of now, no official statement has been released from the family of the royals stating the death cause of Devi, however, it has been said that she was having some health issues for the last couple of days. Today, that is, on 21st August 2021, Saturday, the last rituals were performed by Ajay Singh, who is reported to be the son of Rani Vidya Devi and Raja Jai Singh. As per the reports, the mortal and holy body of Devi was cremated in the Lal Kothi Cementary in Jaipur on Saturday morning, 21st August 2021.
Many prominent figures from the states as well as from the royal family paid their visit at the Lal Kothi Cementary keeping in mind the social distancing norms. The emotional public also got to see the last glimpse of the late Rani Vidya Devi draped in the traditional Rajasthani attire. Her lifeless body was resting in a wooden coffin that was decorated with rose and Marigold petals, while her son, Ajay Singh could be seen shouldering the body of his deceased mother along with the coffin.
Undoubtedly, the whole royal community of Jaipur, Rajasthan including the state is in a great state of sorrow and pain. Devi was from the Jubal Royal family in Himachal Pradesh and also the chairwoman of MGD Girls’ school, which was named after the royal princess, Maharani Gayatri Devi (MGD).
Prior to being a chairperson at MGD school, Devi also served as a chairperson of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya, Jaipur named after Maharaja of Jaipur, Mai Singh II. She was also well-acknowledged for her command and grasp of speaking the Bengali language fluently and had also acted in the film, “Kanchanjangha’ directed by Satyajit Ray. A feeling of melancholy has been plunged on the royal family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of late highness and the wife of Jai Singh. May the soul of the late Rani Vidya Devi rest in peace.
