Rape Victim Aruna Shanbaug Passes Away after 42 Years
Aruna Shanbaug who worked as a nurse in Mumbai’s KEM Hospital and she was brutally raped by contract sweeper boy Sohanlal B. Walmiki in the same hospital on the night of 27th November 1973 after finishing her work and changing for going home.
While indulging in the act, he had choked her with a chain which cut off oxygen supply to her brain, which resulted in injuries to the brain stem and cervical chord injury that left her in a vegetative state since then.
Aruna was found blinded and paralyzed and with a chain around her neck in the basement after 11 hours after the incident. From that day she was in vegetative state in the hospital and was taken care by the hospital for about almost 4 decades in a bed ridden stage.
Aruna Shanbaug suffering from pneumonia and was on ventilator support, but added that her condition is improving. And now she’s died at the age of 68.
