Saradha scam case: TMC leader Madan Mitra released from Jail

Madan Mitra who is a senior leader of Trinamool Congress(TMC) is in jail in Saradha scam case, but on Saturday morning he was released from prison on bail.

After over 21 months in the prison, Madan Mitra was released from Alipore jail around 6.45 am on the Saturday morning and taken to a hotel within the jurisdiction of Bhowanipore police station according to the conditions set by the court for granting him bail.

TMC leader Mitra could not be taken back to his residence as it is within Kalighat police station jurisdiction.

After the release, Madan said that I am very happy. I am happy that I will be with my family. I am a civilised person and I will abide all the conditions of the court. I will not break the law. Now I will take complete rest and enjoy the time with my family members and enjoy the Durga Puja.

The followers of TMC leader Madan Mitra gathered outside the hotel and distributed the sweets. Mitra further said that Time will prove my innocence.

A cousel of TMC Leader Mitra – Niladri Bhattacharya said that an appeal would be made to the court so that he could go to his residence. The plea will be made next week, because the court is closed today.

Yesterday, the Session Court of Alipore granted bail to Former Transport Minister Mitra on two sureties of Rs 15 lakhs each.

Madan Mitra was directed not to go out of the jurisdiction area of Bhowanipore Police station and He was also directed to appear before the court on 23rd November 2016, surrender his passport to CBI and appear before the CBI investigating officer once every week.

Mitra was arrested on 12th December 2014 and was granted bail by a lower court last year. After the bail was cancelled by the High Court of Kolkata on 20th November 2015, TMC leader had surrendered before the court.

Former Union minister Matang Singh is among those arrested in the Saradha scam case. Others several TMC ministers, including the close aide of Chief Minister of West Benga Mamata Banerjee – Mukul Roy have been questioned.

On the order of the Supreme Court of India, CBI had taken over the investigation in the month of June, 2014.
