SBI may block internet services: Register your mobile number to continue access to internet banking services

Country’s largest public lender, State Bank of India (SBI) made an announcement regarding its Internet banking users, that it will not be able to provide internet banking facilities to its users who do not link their mobile number with their corresponding bank accounts.

It is compulsory for the SBI Internet banking users to link their mobile number to your bank account as per RBI instructions to the bank. If the Customers failed to register their mobile number with their bank account then he/she might lose the access to internet banking services from 1st December 2018.

On their official website, the SBI stated- As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recommendation, it is compulsory to register your mobile number to access internet banking services. The RBI had on 6th July, 2017, made it compulsory for banks to have registered mobile numbers of their customers for SMS alerts

How to check

The SBI account holders can check their mobile number registration status through the official website of SBI, sbi.co.in and if your bank account is not registered through your mobile number then immediately update your mobile number online through internet banking services.

If you have not registered your mobile number to your respective bank accounts then you can register your mobile number through internet banking services.

Here are the steps to register your mobile number to your bank account through online services:

  • Firstly visit the official SBI’s website (https://www.onlinesbi.com/) and go to the internet banking services.
  • Enter your login details such as user id and password (Do not share your login details with anyone for any further fraudster activities)
  • After logging in, click on “My accounts” and visit the profile tab
  • Move to personal details and then select the mobile number you want to register.
  • For saving your changes enter the password.

SBI Internet Banking mobile number registration: How to register offline

You can also register your mobile number through offline by visiting your SBI branch and fill a small form regarding your mobile number registration. Even if you are not the internet banking customers, still it is suggested to all the users of SBI to register your mobile number with your bank account whether you are internet banking users or not. Non-internet banking users can also visit their SBI branch to register their respective mobile number to their bank account. This will also help you to give alerts on any transactions through your bank account.

There are also other notifications released by the SBI bank regarding the other changes on their official website. One of the recent changes is to upgrade the existing magnetic strip of debit cards which are older chip-strip based cards to new EMV chip-based cards by 31st December 2018. If failed to do so within the given time period, then the debit cards which are not upgraded to EMV chip based, would be blocked. This can be done by visiting your SBI branch as well as through internet banking before the closing date.
