Massive explosion at Tata Steel’s UK plant, two people were injured

On Friday, a drastic incident took place when a massive explosion took place at a Tata Steel plant in the United Kingdom. Two people were injured in a massive explosion. Tata Steel also confirmed the situation through the twitter by tweeting, “We can confirm two of our employees were slightly injured when there was a spillage of liquid iron while it was travelling to the steel plant.”

The steel plant is situated in Port Talbot, South Wales. Tata Steel in Europe along with the confirmation on twitter also stated that the fire has been extinguished and an investigation has been ordered.

The tweet from Tata Steel in Europe further added, All fires have now been extinguished. A full investigation has begun.”

A spokesman for Tata Steel Europe, Damien Brook stated, “There was an incident at the Port Talbot site and there are no major injuries and all persons have been accounted for. All fires at the site are now under control.”

As per the news reports, a series of blasts were heard from Tata’s steel plant at the Port Talbot site in South Wales, early this morning.

The South Wales Police also tweeted about the situation which reads, “We can confirm there are no serious injuries and all employees have been accounted for. All fires are now under control.” “At this time we believe only two casualties with minor injuries.”

A recent tweet from the South Wales Police reads, “Thanks to colleagues in the emergency services @WelshAmbulance @SWFireandRescue @swpolice  for their support in helping us to deal with this morning’s incident.”

In the meantime, in a report, BBC said that locals surrounding the area said they heard a “massive” blast.

As per the BBC report it states, “Helicopters were circling overhead and South Wales Police said it received ‘numerous calls’ shortly after 03:30 ‘reporting an explosion’,”.

A tweet from local resident reads, “I thought another blast furnace went. I hope nobody was hurt. The steel works is the heart of this town, our workers Notre Dame. I can see the fire now. Who will rebuild this? TATA? Who will rebuild our town? We’ve been waiting for years. #PortTalbot”

A local resident Craig Williams told BBC, “It’s very unusual to hear something of that magnitude,” he further added that “it was just a huge bang”. “The house shook a little. It’s not something we are accustomed too,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The Port Talbot site, which dates back to the early 1900s, was attained by Tata Steel as part of its procurement of Corus in the year 2007.

Port Talbot is home to one of the two incorporated steel-making sites that the company functions in Europe. The plant creates hot rolled, cold rolled as well as galvanized coil, among additional kinds of steel.
