The film is written by Kamal Haasan and the starring Kamal Hassan, Nassar, Jayram, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Urvashi, Parvathi Menon, Ms Bhaskar, K Balachnadar (Guest Appearance), K Viswanath and Parvathy Nair are in the lead roles. Kamal Haasan plays double role in the movie. One is Uttaman and the other is Manoranjan. Uttaman is an 8th century drama actor and Manoranjan is a cinema superstar of 21st century.
K .Balachander in his last film appearance plays Manoranjan’s mentor. ‘Uttama Villain’ has an enviable star cast which includes Urvashi as Manoranjan’s wife, Andrea Jeremaiah as the love interest of Manoranjan, director K. Viswanath as Manoranjan’s father in law. Jayaram plays a pivotal role as Jacob Zachariah and Paravathi Menon as his adopted daughter and M.S. Bhaskar plays the very important role of Chokku Chettiar which Kamal has said is his favorite character in the film.
8th century Pooja Kumar plays a role of emotionally disturbed princess to Uttaman and the character named as Karpagavalli. Nasser played a role named Mutharasan from 8th century story as a over bearing dictator. Jayaram played a character named Jacob Zachariah and his adopted daughter character was played by Parvathi Menon as Indra. S Bhaskar played a unforgettable character as Chokku Chettiar.
