Uttarakhand Glacier Break Live Updates: Rescue Operations Intensified 14 Dead, 170 Missing

A heavy part of the Nanda Devi Glacier dropped down on Sunday morning at Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. It has resulted in a massive flood and large scale of damage in the Dhauli Ganga River which is one of the main sources of River Ganga and also harmed the upper reaches of the breakable Himalayas. As per the reports, over 10 people died in the incident and over 150 people are missing. 16 labourers have been rescued from the tunnel.

According to the sources, around 100 to 150 people are missing in the flood. The Rishiganga Power Project in the Tapovan area have damaged badly and the life of the people are in danger who is living near the Dhauli Ganga. The Joshimath-Malari bridge is also damaged and overflowed.

Many houses and huts are overflowed as the water dropped down from the hills. Here are the fears of more damage for the human settlements, those are living downstream. All the villages which were on the banks of the river have been cleared so that they can handle the further critical situations. The villagers have been transferred to the safe area. The alert has been issued to the neighbouring country Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat has appealed to the people that not to spread the old videos as rumours.

The authority said that another supporting river of Ganga, Alaknanda is one metre above from normal but the level is reducing slowly. All the nearby districts have been alerted and with this, the nearby people living have been told not to go along the river.

Near 05:00 PM, around 16 people have been rescued by the ITBP from the tunnel near Tapovan dam in Chamoli district, MHA sources said to India Today. The MHA said,” 16 people have been rescued from one tunnel. SDRF and ITBP are trying to open other tunnels”.

Also, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted,” Am constantly monitoring the unfortunate situation in Uttarakhand. India stands with Uttarakhand and the nation prays for everyone’s safety there. Have been continuously speaking to senior authorities and getting updates on NDRF deployment, rescue work and relief operations”.

The rescue time is underway and the searching process has been started in the area to find the missing peoples. More updates will be updated here till further details.
