Who was Lotfi Zadeh?
He was a mathematician, computer scientist, electrical engineer, artificial intelligence researcher and professor at the University of California at Berkeley in the United States. He was born in Azerbaijan in the Soviet Socialist Republic on 4th February 1921. Fuzzy maths and logic were discovered by him in the year 1965. His father, Rahim Aleskerzade, served as a journalist in Iran and his mother, Fanya Korenman, was an Iranian citizen and Jewish paediatrician in Ukraine. Lotfi Zadeh studied in an elementary school in Baku for three years. In 1931, he was enrolled in a school in Tehran therein he studied for 8 years.

Later, he joined a college that was aided by Presbyterian missionaries. He was awarded various patents. In the year 1942, he completed his degree of graduation from the University of Tehran in electrical engineering. He was one of the three students of electrical engineering in his college due to the Second World War when the Allies attacked Iran. His father was working with the army of America as a contractor for hardware. His father was also involved in the business of building materials when 30,000 soldiers of America were deployed and based in Iran.
Eventually, he left Iran and migrated to the United States in 1943 to continue his education. In 1944, he worked as an electronic associate and joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a student. His family adopted a new middle name as a result he became Lotfi Aliasker Zadeh. Later he completed his doctorate degree in electrical engineering at Columbia University. He became a professor at Columbia University in 1957.
