Who is John McWhorter? Columbia Prof Slams NJ school’s ‘Antiracism’Lessons As Teacher Quits

A well-known Columbia University professor, John McWhorter, has shown his support to Dana Stangel-Plowe who has recently quit Dwight-Englewood School on Tuesday over a theory lessons regarding critical race. Dana Stangel-Plowe is an English teacher who used to work in a well-known private school in Englewood, New Jersey until Tuesday after which she decided to quit the school. The English teacher claimed that their private school in Englewood, New Jersey has drastically shifted towards the CRT and the adoption of these lessons by the school has been harmful for the students’ mental growth. The main purpose behind Stangel-Plowe’s resignation is the same reason as she can’t support CRT classes that has been implemented in her school.

Her resignation letter has been also posted on the Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism website on Tuesday, where Dana Stangel-Plowe has accused the administrators of Dwight-Englewood School for failing the children or students by taking up critical race theory lessons. She has now received a big support from the prominent Columbia University professor.

Reacting to this whole recent incident, John McWhorter has given his support to the English teacher through a tweet on June 9 (Wednesday) where he has also urged the parents of the Dwight-Englewood School students to pull their children from the school.

In support of her, John McWhorter has conveyed the Stangel-Plowe’s worries of adopting Critical Race Theory (CRT) lessons which can affect the students’ intellectual as well as emotional growth through these classes.

She also talked more about CRT and stated that it has turned out to be a major breaking point in recent months, as there are many liberal schools that are trying to approve and adopt these theory lessons while fundamentalists have crashed it for making White people to feel guilty.

Who is John McWhorter?

John McWhorter is one of the well-known and prominent professors in Columbia University. His full name is John Hamilton McWhorter V and he was born on 6th October 1965. McWhorter was born to John Hamilton McWhorter IV (Father) and Schelysture Gordon McWhorter (Mother) in Philadelphia. His father has also worked in educational field as a college administrator, while his mother used to teach at Temple University regarding social work.

He received his Associate degree from Simon’s Rock College, while completed his BA and MA degree from Rutgers University and New York University respectively. In addition to that, he has also completed his PhD from Stanford University.

He is currently 55 years old and is working as a linguist and English associate professor at the Columbia University, New York. In this prestigious private university in the New York City, he teaches linguistics, philosophy, among few more. In addition to that, he has also written few books, mainly on race relations and language which has gained a lot of attention of noteworthy magazines which has also published some of his writings as well.
