Another dowry death case in Kollam (Kerala) has shocked everyone in the country. This controversial case started when a body of Vismaya V Nair was found at her husband’s family house on Monday. The 22-year-old woman was a Bachelor degree student who used to live with her husband in Sasthamnada near Sasthamkotta, located in the Kollam district of Kerala. The death of Vismaya V Nair is considered to be a dowry related case as two days before her death she has sent some messages to her cousin revealing that she has been physically and mentally assaulted by her husband. She also told her cousin that her husband brutally beats her many times over some dowry issues.
The 22-year-old Vismaya V Nair was a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery student and was pursuing her final year. In March 2020, she got married to S Kiran Kumar who is a Motor Vehicle Department official. After her death, Vismaya’s family has accused her husband for allegedly assaulting their daughter over dowry and suspected that she didn’t die due to suicide but has been murdered.
The family of Vismaya has also filed a complaint against S Kiran Kumar for physically and mentally assaulting their daughter for dowry. Now, a complainant has been registered based on the Vismaya’s family claims against S Kiran Kumar. Vismaya’s messages to her cousin is also becoming a crucial part of the investigation where she has confessed that that she was a victim of brutal domestic violence by her husband whom she had married last year.
Two days back, Vismaya has also shared some photos of herself to her cousin which shows the brutal injuries on her body. In her messages, she has also confessed that his husband has allegedly pulled her hair and hit her on the face. She also told her that she has not told about this incident to anybody and revealed that the physical assault was quite frequent.
Vismaya’s family has also revealed that they have given a piece of land (more than an acre), gold, and a car as a part of dowry to her husband. However, he was not happy with the car mileage and wanted money in return. The family also said that he had hit Vismaya in front of them few months back on the same issue, after which they also filed a complaint against him but the police insisted to compromise. She was then living with her parents but three months ago she went back to her husband house. She then stopped contacting her father and brother and her mother was aware about her assault as Vismaya did tell her.
As of now, Sooranad police has been investigating this 22-year-old alleged dowry death case. Also, on the same night of Vismaya’s death i.e. on June 21, the husband S Kiran Kumar has surrendered himself before the Sooranad police. Now, the investigating team of this case from Sooranad police department are questioning Vismaya’s husband. According to the reports, few more people will also be involved in the part of investigation questioning.
