You all may remember that people are talking about the anti-polio drops and India really played well when it comes to the Polio. World Polio Day 2018

You all should know that the occasion also commemorates the birth of American medical researcher and virologist Jonas Salk. Also, he is the one who discovered and developed one of the first successful poliomyelitis or polio vaccines. You all may know him because people usually call him the saviors when it comes to the Polio. No, if we talk about the theme for World Polio Day 2018 then we can say that it is ‘End Polio Now’.

As per the reports, WHO defines polio as a highly infectious viral disease, which mainly affects young children mostly. You don’t want to be a part of that disease because it has no cure, but can be prevented through immunization. Polio vaccine, given multiple times, almost always protects a child for life. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.

Now, if we talk about India’s position on ‘End Polio Now’ then we can say that we have our own goals for this disease. Reports are suggesting that the this has been reduced by 99%. It is led by national governments with five core partners –the WHO, Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

You all should know that India is a Polio free country. Also, the last case of polio was reported in January 2011 ever since we are a Polio free country. You all should know that countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria are the one which is still affected by the Polio. You all should know that Nigeria hasn’t reported a case in last one year and if this continues to progress, then Nigeria would be declared a polio-free nation. You all should know that except India other countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal etc, were announced polio-free.
