World Space Week 2019: Objectives, (WSW) Theme, Activities and Observances

World Space Week (WSW) is a yearly holiday that has been celebrated from 4 to 10 October in several parts of the world, which also comprises of Europe and Asia. Officially, the World Space Week is defined as “an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition”.

The dates were established on October 4, 1957, which was also the launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, therefore inaugural the way for space exploration as well as the October 10, 1967 signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, comprising the Moon as well as Other Celestial Bodies.

World Space Week 2019 Theme

Every year, the theme for World Space Week is allotted and this year in 2019, the theme for this amazing day is “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars”. Previous year in 2018, the theme for World Space Week was “Space Unites the World” and in the year 2017, the theme for World Space Week was “Exploring New Worlds in Space”.

The World Space Week Association is basically a non-government, non-profit organization, which is been supported by national coordinators in more than 50 countries. It is been led by an all volunteer Board of Directors which also comprises of Buzz Aldrin, Bill Nye, Tom Hanks, Elon Musk, Dorin-Dumitru Prunariu, Max Grimard, Lisa LaBonte, as well as space leaders from around the globe.

World Space Week Activities and Observances

The main objective of the day is to educate people around the world about the benefits that they receive from space. Along with this it also helps in encouraging the use of space for maintainable economic development, foster enthusiastic education as well as interest in science and cooperation in the middle of nations through space outreach and education. And all these are done through conducting seminars, educational classes, events and so on.
