An undertrial prisoner named, “Yogesh Kumar”, arrested in the gang-rape case, was found hanging with a stole around his neck attached to the locked gate of a two-storeyed building in the district jail of Agra on 28th June 2021, that is, on Monday. According to the Agra district authorities, at first glance, it looks like Kumar has committed suicide as according to them when the warder of the jail was doing a routine checkup over the prisoner on Monday evening, he found the body of the accused hanged with a stole.
However, the family of the accused are not convinced with this theory and according to them, their son was killed. As per the statement given by the family member of the deceased accused, when they went to see the body of Kumar in the postmortem room, they noticed several marks of injuries on his body and therefore, they are quite confident that their son has been murdered and all they wish for their late beloved son is justice.
The superintendent of police of District Jail of Agra, PD Salonia, has also stated, that as of now, they are not aware of the reason behind the suicide of the undertrial prisoner, however, the SI has ensured that they have recovered the body of Kumar under their custody and a forensic team was also called upon to assemble their evidence. Salonia further stated that the Agra district Deputy inspector general has also carried a spot inspection, where Kumar committed suicide and so far, he along with his team are investigating the matter.
On 2nd April 2021, Yogesh along with the other two men named, “Monu Kumar” and “Gauri Rajput” was arrested by the Agra district police, in the case of the Gang-rape. According to the police officials, the three of them attacked a couple on a bike on the Etmadpur highway. The three, first of them physically assaulted the couple and later seized their valuables from them. Thereafter, they dragged the couple and took them to the nearby forest near Jharna Nullah and gang-raped the woman in front of her husband, moreover, they also recorded the same on their mobile phones.
Later, the couple filed a report against them in the Agra district jail, and on 1st April, the accused name, “Monu Kumar” and “Gauri Rajput” was taken under legal custody. The police then interrogated the two of them and found the involvement of Yogesh in this matter too. Thus, they went to the residential area of Paliwal Gali, where Yogesh reside,s and arrested him on 2nd April 2021. In fact, the stick which was used to physically assault the couple and the stolen valuables were recovered by the police from the house of the Yogesh.
Coming back to the suicide case of Yogesh Kumar, the brother of the deceased, Jitendra Kumar has also stated, that when he received the body of his brother, it had numerous injury marks and on closer notice, he saw that even his teeth were damaged. Jitendra also stated that in the past, Yogesh has complained to him multiple times, that he has been beaten up inside the jail and thus, the brother of the deceased is extremely sure that Yogesh was murdered. In fact, he is also saying that his brother is innocent.
